IBEW Local 230 doesn’t believe training and education ends at the job. There’s many important life skills necessary to be successful in today’s world. The World Health Organization defines life skills as the “abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life.” Work is hard and life is hard; we want all our members to succeed professionally and personally. Union training helps members with their communications & collaboration, thinking & creativity, stress management, self-awareness, problem solving, financial literacy, leadership and more! New Member Orientation
(4 hours)

This course is mandatory for all IBEW Local 230 members. Topics include IBEW history and structure, local union bylaws and policy manual, collective bargaining agreements, member benefits, dues responsibilities and more.

Mental Health Awareness
(8 hours)

The training will provide participants with an overview of current developments in mental health policy and the knowledge and understanding to advocate effectively.

Your Financial Story
(1 hour)

The course is a comprehensive guide to building wealth and financial confidence in today's economic landscape. You'll learn key financial strategies to help you master day-to-day finances and invest for your future. This course is led by our in-house Certified Financial Planner.

COMET
(4 hours)

This interactive course prepares union leaders, organizes, and appointed staff to teach the COMET and LEAP training classes. Areas of focus include how adults learn, proven teaching techniques, and effective communication skills.

Code of Excellence
(4 hours)

This course explores the important differences between the roles and responsibilities of COE stewards and traditional stewards. Participants will learn effective communication and listening skills and how to deal with difficult people and handle conflict. Exercises will provide participants with practice in addressing typical workplace challenges. This course is available specifically designed to stewards of the various branches of the IBEW – Construction, Manufacturing, Railroad, Telecom, Broadcasting, Government Employees, and Utility.

Basic Steward Training Class
(1.5 days)

These courses are offered for construction and professional / industrial stewards. Stewards will learn about their roles and responsibilities, legal rights and obligations, and investigation techniques.
